Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at 10:51PM Someone today told us that it is supposed to reach 120 degrees tomorrow.
I think they were lying...at least I really hope they were.
It was about 93 today and I thought we were going to die. The fans we were promised never materialized.
I will be sleeping on the floor of the living room again with the windows open, despite the fact that our apartment is on street level-they will be barricaded with an elaborate booby trap system involving shutters and the coffee table. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Tonight we are going to a club in Glyfada with some of Maren's friends-its the ritzy kind of club where you have to know the right people and look the right way and have reservations a week in advance before they will let you in the door. I don't really want to go b/c I am exhausted, but its a once in a life time opportunity-whats the chance that I will actually "know the right people and look the right way and have reservations a week in advance" again? Plus, it will get us out of our heat-stroke-inducing-death-trap of an apartment for a couple of hours, which is probably my biggest initiative for going at this point.
I spent two hours sitting upstairs in Starbucks today actually reading my Philosophy textbook for the sole reason that the building was highly air-conditioned. The grande double chocolate chip frappucino helped a bit too.
I have a 5 page paper entitled "Definitions of Faith" due on Thursday as well as a midterm exam over the first 5 chapters over our textbook. The only thing motivating me to get it done is the fact that we leave for Santorini on a night boat at 10:00 that evening. We arrive at 8am on Friday and don't leave until 7:30 Monday night...my idea of paradise.
I must now go and get ready, since my appearance is rather dismal right now due to the heat.
Kali Nichta!

GotD: endaksi - okay
P.S. they are having more education related riots in the city for the rest of the week...and just our luck, we live three blocks from the biggest political square in Athens. That means our streets are patrolled with dozens of (rather cute) police officers wearing helmets and carrying assault shields and huge machine guns. Fun stuff!
