not what I signed up for
Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 03:30AM Last night, we were all having a very relaxing time on the roof of the Mitropoleous apartment, enjoying the view and some good conversation.
Then, half the group got incredibly drunk and decided to go out to a club. Chaos ensued as people got lost, people got confused, and people got even drunker.
May I say that this is not what I signed up for when I decided to come back here.
I get hassled for not going out, made fun of for wanting to get more than 2 hours of sleep, and talked about behind my back because my father used to be a preacher - which apparently explains why I was upset that people woke me up from outside the building at 3am the other night. Doesn't matter that the woman who lives downstairs wants to sue the school for the students being loud, or that they could be arrested for standing outside the building making noise in the middle of the night, or that tourists (especially obnoxious American college students) frequently get slipped drugs or bad alcohol at the clubs. No, that doesn't play any part in these students' logic. They just factor in that I don't like to get wasted and chalk it up to the fact that I must be a prude and am incapable of having fun.
So last night, after a nice evening turned sour, it got even worse when the other Rachel and I ended up out in the streets of Athens at 2:30 looking for the drunken girls of our apartment that hadn't been accounted for. One had no idea where she was/had been, and the other was barefoot. IN THE STREETS OF ATHENS!
Again, not what I signed up for.
And I am so incredibly over it.
If I have to go through another event like last night, I don't care about the expense or complication, I'll be on the next plane out of here.

Rachel, I am proud of you for sticking with your beliefs and not caving to those who do not share your life path.
It's lonely at the top, Sista ;)
Hugs

Sorry to hear about all your troubles, but I know that you are a very strong person inside and out and that situations like these; while challenging, are things that you are great at dealing with. It definitely sucks that your summer has to be so much like dealing with Meredith things, although this will probably prove to be a good thing when you move back on campus in August because you won't have to deal with this stuff at least not to this magnitude. I completely understand how you are feeling and not wanting to stay, but after all the trouble you went through to get over there I know it will take a lot more than a few spoiled nights to bring you back here. Hopefully when classes get into full swing they will calm down and not be so rowdy. What ever happened to you having your own place since you are there for an internship rather than just a normal student? If you had the original arrangements of your own apartment I think things would be a lot different, but in the same sense you are a very strong willed person and there isn't much I have seen get in your way of doing what you want with your life. With that said your summer goal was to be in Athens and you have succeed in doing that so don't let a few young college students ruin your grand plans. I would respect your decision to leave, but don't leave on the account of others' actions leave because what you are doing isn't what you thought it would be. I will be sending you a care package in the next week so at least stay until you get that and maybe that will cheer you up. If you have any requests let me know I will be more than happy to send you whatever you are craving or missing. Hang in there girl I know that you can get through this. Love ya lots and miss you all the time.
Always,
C
