guten morgen

I'm sitting in the Frankfurt Airport, surrounded by throngs of businessmen in suits, who are reading newspapers and eating breakfast rolls.  I stick out like a sore thumb with my brightly striped shoulder bags and cobalt blue t-shirt.  Women in short skirts and high heels are questioning some of the men about something - my German ist nicht sehr gut - as we all know.  The man sitting next to me hasn't figured out the internet thing yet and keeps staring at my computer.  I don't mind paying the 8euro for an hour of internet - my flight to Athens boards at 13:15, and it is still only 8am.  I discovered a used bookstore at the airport in Raleigh, so I bought old copies of Persuasion and Sense & Sensibility to keep me company - less dense reading than the Henry Miller and Lawrence Durrel I already had packed.  I'm hoping to find a quiet corner in which I can curl up on my carry on and take a nap.  I actually slept well on my flight, but it is 2am in Raleigh and I still have a long day ahead of me.  I'm going to need a nap, a good German breakfast, and then a few hours of knitting/reading time to keep me motivated for the rest of my day.

Sonia, Dylan, and Andy are almost to Rhodes - I'll be meeting them later tonight.  I fly to Athens at 2pm, spend about 3 hours in the airport there, and then take an hour long flight to Rhodes at 8:30pm.  At least I know my way around the Athens airport after spending so much time waiting to pick up Odyssey students last summer.

I have to admit that as annoying and frustrating as the past few days have been - I'm glad it happened to me and not someone else.  I'm also so grateful to just be me - to be able to adapt to this ridiculous upset in my schedule so easily.  I also have to admit that being here in Frankfurt makes me wish my German was better - if I felt more confident/less exhausted, I probably would have tried to explore the city a bit during my layover - but I'm just not up for it alone.

Hopefully things will continue to go well, I'm off to find food and a place to lie down.

Tschuss!
