Monday, May 19, 2008 at 12:47PM Kalymnos totally made up for the melancholy that overtook Rodos. This island is beautiful, magical, nearly untouched by the ravages of the Greek tourist industry. The locals are authentic and friendly - the landscape rugged and heartbreaking. Rhodes was wonderful, but for completely different reasons than Kalymnos.
Here, our hotel was in a small coastal village and the view from our balcony was stunning. It truly reminded me of why I love this country, and why I continue to come back here. Yesterday afternoon, we found a stair path down to the rocks at the waters edge - so we ventured down to go swimming in a tiny hidden cove. I had to conquor my fear of deep water, but it was totally worth the view. We spent a lot of quality time sitting on our balcony, enjoying the spectacular view - and the kind of conversations that can only occur with a group of new friends in a foreign country.
I'm posting photos to flickr as I type this, so please check them out. We're spending tomorrow in Athens and then heading to Santorini for four days, and I'm hoping to have better internet access soon.
