keeping warm
Friday, January 16, 2009 at 10:05PM It has been unusually cold here over the past few days and I'm keeping warm the best ways I know how. Piling on the hand knits and keeping a steady stream of comfort food coming from the kitchen.
These scalloped potatoes are one of my favorite go-to dishes. Warm, filling, and simple. Just as it should be.
Creamy Scalloped Potatoes
4 smallish Idaho or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and sliced thin
1.5 - 2 cups whole milk or heavy cream
1/2 stick butter
3 cloves garlic
dash nutmeg
salt & pepper to taste
Melt the butter, saute the garlic, then add milk/cream. Bring to boil and let simmer for a few minutes. Add nutmeg, salt, and pepper to milk. Arrange potato slices in a buttered baking dish and cover with milk mixture. Bake at 400* for roughly 45 minutes.
