where I've been

My friends and I have debated about whether or not I can say that I have been somewhere if I have not actively toured that country.  I usually disagree and argue that I have technically been to Switzerland, etc. because I was physically in that country---even if I was only in the airport or taking a train through the countryside.  I also argue the passport stamp angle, but I digress.

This map only represents places I have visited (or lived) and not the three other countries I was in strictly for travel purposes.

 Pretty impressive, no?

Less impressive is how little of my own country I've seen.

create your own personalized map of the USA

A recent goal of mine has been to find places in the US that are as interesting, charming, and full of character & history as the cities in Europe that I love.  Charleston is my top pick, combining a rich local culture, deep history, unigue character in an incredibly beautiful city.  I love Washington, DC-our nation's capital is such a beautiful representation of what is good about this country and an important reminder of why it was founded.  Chicago is a bustling big city, a really cool place that is perfect for day trips when I'm home in Indy.  I've only recently fallen for Indianapolis' character, discovering after 6 years a city of charm and a different sort of beauty.  On my list of places to see: Boston, New York City (I haven't been there since I was a toddler), New Haven, Seattle, Philadelphia, & Savannah.

I am a "Culture Buff"

Your travel type: Culture Buff

The culture buff needs to see a museum, an art gallery, a 16-th century church every day during her holiday. When she travels she is always well prepared. She has read history books, speaks a few words of the lingo, knows about the strange habits the locals have.
